Dangerous driving is said to be the main cause of the nearly seven deaths that occur on British roads each day. This problem is now being looked at by the government in the hopes that they can do something to solve it. A new maximum prison sentence of five years for dangerous driving was proposed by Jack Straw, the justice secretary in December 2009. Two years is the maximum penalty imposed on those found guilty of dangerous driving at the moment.
It is an assumption that most of us make that it is the young or newly qualified drivers who are the only ones guilty of dangerous driving. But there are plenty of drivers who have held their driving licences for many years who are just as guilty if not more. Many experienced drivers pick up bad habits over the years and would more than likely fail to obtain a driving licence if they had to take a test now.
But if you are concerned about the driving of a friend, family member or even yourself, you can avail of courses specially designed for those with full licences. Courses have been organised by the IAM (Institute Of Advanced Motoring in London. They have lessons and assessments which can help those with bad driving habits.
The fact that a lot of us would now fail a driving test if we had to take one would surprise many. Checking mirrors as much as is needed and observing speed restrictions are two things that we seem to put less emphasis on the longer we are driving. But checking your mirror when you slow and speed up are just as important as checking them when turning. Being extra vigilant can of course save lives. Because how many of us would actually pass our tests if we had to take one now?
It doesn’t matter what driving license you hold, if you are looking for a job that entails driving your future employers may want to check you have a license . Driving licence verification is something that should be taken seriously. Never try to apply for a driving job without the appropiate license because you will be found out.
